School President Antonio DeSapio announced filling the first of two critical, open administrative positions when he named Ms. Nicole McCoy  as Interim Academic Vice Principal for 2016-2017.

McCoy moves from her position  as Head Counselor. With 15 years experience of working closely with the Academic Vice Principal, Department Chairs,  the Principal’s Council, and the BBHS Leadership Team, McCoy has been a key contributor and close collaborator on the school’s on-going academic initiatives.

“I am personally grateful for Nicole’s steady character, personal courage, and deep commitment to serve the Brave community at this time,” said DeSapio.

The opening was created in early June when Ms. Megan Nichols announced she would be leaving Blanchet to work closer to home in north Snohomish county.  Principal Sheila Kries announced her intention to leave her position on the very same day.  That position remains open.

DeSapio continues the search for an Interim Principal for the 2016-2017 school year.  He specified that he wants an experienced Catholic administrator, dedicated to serving and supporting our students, faculty, staff, and families. The interim will be the ninth person to serve as Principal in the school’s 62 year history.

DeSapio will be assisted in the search by the Principal’s Council, the Executive Committee of the Advisory Board, and the Office for Catholic Schools.

Russell
Mr. Stephen Russell , a nine year veteran in the counseling office, will serve as both Head Counselor and the Coordinator of the Accreditation efforts this Fall and Winter.

Once the position is filled, the search for permanent replacements will commence.  The search will extend nation-wide.

McCoy’s new position creates a void at Head Counselor.  To that effect, DeSapio tagged Mr. Stephen Russell to serve in that position for the 2016-2017 school year.  Russell has been a member of the counseling team working with students for nine years. Serving as Head Counselor, he will join the BBHS Leadership Team at an instrumental time, serving as the Accreditation Coordinator throughout the upcoming school year.

To guide those students left without a counselor because of McCoy’s new position, DeSapio hired Ms. Heather Rabe to provide counseling services to  students in the alpha group (Ro-Z). Rabe comes with her counseling degree and credentials from Seattle University. She is a licensed teacher with experience in Catholic and public schools.

Another staffing announcement came today as DeSapio named Ms. Rachel McGovern the new Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Coordinator for 2016-2017.  McGovern will working closely with McCoy and the interim principal to provide leadership for the school’s on-going faculty, professional development by working directly with Department Chairs to establish goals to support their departments.

In one last staffing change, Mr. Martin Moore, the Assistant to the President, has decided to leave Bishop Blanchet to pursue a Masters in Education in School Counseling Degree and continuing to pursue his political dreams of serving the people of Washington State. 
No time table has been given to fill Moore’s position.
