Construction Affects BBHS Musical

As a result of the upcoming construction on Bishop Blanchet, the annual musical will be moved from the spring to the winter. During the spring, five-thousand units of costumes must be moved out from behind the Ernie Rose gym, which would have made this an excessively stressful time to be preparing for BBHS Drama’s biggest production of the year.

Instead of the typical spring musical, A Christmas Carol will be performed this December in the Moore Theatre. This show has been performed by Blanchet somewhat recently, in both the 2008 and 2009. While this time around the same script will be used, a few things should make this version stand out from the rest.

“Any time you have new people involved, it’s a whole different production,” says Mo Mershon, the director of the 2016 show, as well as the 2008 and 2009 productions. “I try to view the characters differently each time, depending on the talent that walks through the door.”

On top of this, a completely new set will drastically set apart this production from the past two.

This musical will follow the classic story from A Christmas Carol, the novel by Charles Dickens; however, the BBHS musical will differ slightly from the more popular movies, or the original Broadway show. Some portrayals of certain characters or events may deviate from these versions of the story.

“It’s gonna be a lot of fun,” said Corey Eriksen, the Fine Arts Head Chair. “I enjoy it, it’s a great version of the Christmas Carol.”

“I think it’s a really beautiful story and I’m excited to be able to bring it to life,” explained junior Natalie Gryniewicz, who has already auditioned to be a part of the show.

A Christmas Carol will be performed at the Moore Theatre on December 9-11, 2016.
