On October 11th and 13th, 2016, the Bishop Blanchet boys’ golf team battled their way through the metro tournament.

The braves were off to a slow start on the first round on the 11th, with the best score being 77. This lead to more motivation on the team to do better the next round, which they did.

“On the 13th, I came out of the front 9 feeling confident, but after a tough back 9 I was put in the play of to go to state,” said senior Will Curran, “it was do or die, win or lose, and I chose….I chose to win…and win I did. I’m state bound for my second year in a row and couldn’t be more excited.”

The determination of the players to come back the second round and raise the quality their play was the result of their success in the final match.

“The atmosphere around districts was different than any round we had played all year. Tensions were high and I knew I needed to play well to make state,” said senior Tommy Vail, “after a rough start, my luck began to change and I played well on the back nine. I knew I had a chance to make it but it would be close. After missing the cut by one stroke by losing a playoff last year, I was determined to make it this year. ”

“I am really proud of the way our team came back and fought after the struggles we faced the first round,” said senior Colin Curran, “this is what our team is all about continuing to get better every hole, every match, every practice.”

The players’ spirits are high, and they’re not ready to let their season come to an end. The State tournament will be on May 23-24, 2017.
