Auditions for The Secret in the Wings Begin

Auditions start this Monday for Blanchet’s upcoming fall play, The Secret in the Wings, by Mary Zimmerman.

The show’s director, Robert Bergin, chose this play for a number of reasons. The Secret in the Wings combines numerous lesser-known fairy tales, and revolves around the relationship between an ogre and a girl.

“My goal in searching for a play to direct was to find a story with a cast and message that meet the demands of our drama department in terms of size and creative challenge,” said Bergin. “I think Mary Zimmerman’s language has a colloquial and magical quality that young actors respond well to.”

Bergin noted he was excited to see this story come to life.

“The play is very imaginative and at times quite dark, and at other times bursting with noise and color.”

Going into auditions, Bergin has a clear vision of what he is looking for in his cast.

“It’s really important that actors bring their own imagination to the script,” said Bergin. “It’s a bit like the play is a big coloring book, and our actors are going to fill it up with different hues and textures and life.”

The Secret in the Wings will be performed in the Marge Bradburn Theatre December 1st through the 3rd.
