The Bishop Blanchet Bears track team made a powerful statement this weekend at the Oregon Relays, shattering multiple school records and showcasing the incredible depth of their relay squads.
Among the highlights, the Boys 800 Meter Sprint Medley Relay team — Finn Leigland, Isaac Moore, Chane Brummond, and Mason Mandell — clocked an impressive 1:39.93, setting a new school record. The Boys 1600 Meter Sprint Medley Relay team followed suit, with Mandell again contributing alongside Mendel Soloff, JR Carlson, and RJ Yu to post a record-breaking 3:41.89.
In the sprints, the Boys 4×100 Meter Relay squad of Leigland, Moore, Mandell, and Carlson blazed to a 43.59 finish, another school best. “We’ve been working on our exchanges all season, and it finally came together at Oregon,” said senior Finn Leigland. “We knew we had the speed — it was just about putting the pieces together.”
Not to be outdone, Mandell, Brummond, Soloff, and Carlson also teamed up in the Boys 4×200 Meter Relay and set a new benchmark for the school. “There’s something special about this group,” said Mason Mandell. “We trust each other, and that chemistry is what pushed us through the finish line.”
On the girls’ side, Lily LaPorte put on a dominant solo performance in the 2-mile, crossing the line in 10:43.07 and breaking the school record in the event.
With several events still left in the season, the Bears are clearly peaking at the right time. Their performance in Oregon is a testament to their grit, chemistry, and hard-earned speed. Keep an eye on the Bears — this team is only getting faster.
