The 2025-2026 Blanchet Drama Season has officially begun! Auditions for the fall play The Wolves began on Tuesday, September 9th in the Mardge Bradburn black box.
The Wolves is a contemporary, all-female play that follows a high school girls indoor soccer team, showcasing the discussions that occur during their team warm-ups. Throughout the soccer season the girls discuss a multitude of topics ranging from pop culture to global politics as they share the ups and downs of their lives as high schoolers.
“It’s very different from what I’ve done before so it’s a new experience, but I can’t wait,” said Junior Sydney Gates.
As auditions commence, a massive turn out of about 23 students ranging from freshman all the way to seniors fill the student lounge with a rush of liveliness as everyone is filled with nerves and jitters just waiting until it’s their time to audition. As auditions are just moments away, many actors do last minute run-throughs of their monologues as they patiently wait for their names to be called.
For weeks students have been preparing and memorizing two monologues to perform at auditions in hopes for a role in the play, as this is their time to shine. “I’m so impressed with the turn out for the fall play, especially the freshman! It’s so exciting to have a buzz about theater,” said Ms. Darr, director of the play.
While everyone is auditioning and competing for just ten roles, the members of the drama department are no strangers to a supportive community. Walking into the student lounge you can just feel the tight knit community that the drama department has built as everyone is gathered around wishing their fellow auditionees “break a leg”, meaning good luck.
With emotions and nerves high, the welcoming and encouraging environment helps sooth many. “It’s very low pressure. Ms.Darr always does a good job of making people feel comfortable so they can do their best,” said Senior Stella Seward.
After a multitude of students perform their monologues, day one of auditions for “The Wolves” comes to an end. Students now wait patiently for the callback list to be posted, as they begin to prepare new sides for the remaining two days of auditions, as the final cast list is posted on Friday.
As the 2025-2026 Blanchet Drama Season kicks off, the energy and excitement for the arts is unreal. From seasoned seniors to excited freshmen, these students have poured passion and dedication into preparing for this moment in hopes to be a part of this fabulous production.
While there are only a limited number of roles available, just being surrounded by the community and liveliness of the drama department reminds people that theater at Blanchet isn’t just about landing the biggest role but about coming together and creating an amazing production whether that is on or off stage.
