What We Can Tell You About Kairos

On the week of February 5, 60 Blanchet Seniors embarked on a four day, three night retreat. This retreat is considered by some as a right of passage for a Blanchet student, and can have a great impact on the people who attend.

There are always the rumors, or things you hear about what happens on Kairos, but no one is ever allowed to tell the secrets of Kairos. Kairos is a 4 day, 3 night retreat offered to Seniors in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Juniors may also attend in the Spring. The retreat is highly encouraged, but not required. Many students who go on Kairos say that it is a impactful experience.

There are always the rumours, or things you hear about what happens on Kairos, but no one is ever allowed to tell its secrets. Kairos is known for being a enlightening, uplifting experience. Student’s form into different groups, usually without their friends so that they get the opportunity to bond with their other classmates.

“I had a really good experience on Kairos” said Senior Kara Cunningham, “it was fun to get to know my other classmates.”

Kairos is often referred to as “Cry-Ros” because people

feel like they are forced, and expected to cry. They make a point of telling you at the beginning of the retreat that this is not the case. Kairos is a very emotional experience so this is often what happens, but it is not forced or expected of you. On the other hand, some students barely cry or don’t cry at all.

“I cried a lot on the retreat” said Senior Gianna Marchese, “but it was hard for me not to. Especially cause I was seeing all of my friends cry.”

After leaving Warm Beach, where the retreat is located, the students take a long journey back to school all together in a bus. The bus was full of tired kids, but the mood in the bus was louder and more excited than on the ride to Kairos. The retreat has a lot of early mornings, and very full days. Students were very tired after arriving home on Friday, but most students had a very positive experience.

“I was exhausted” said Senior Hailey Mears “I went straight to bed when I got home.”

The next Kairos will be at the beginning of April. Juniors and Seniors are welcome to attend this retreat. If you are a Junior and would like to lead in the Fall, it is a great opportunity for you.
