Returning from an unbelievable season last year, the Varsity Football team has big shoes to fill.

Led by senior captains Jaybry Doyle-Huph, Antone Parente, Will Merriman, and Tim Roach, the Braves are looking forward to a strong season.

The Varsity Football team competed in their first two games against Kamiak and Archbishop Murphy. On September 2nd, the Braves did not hold up against Kamiak as they lost 17-0. Facing last season’s 2A league and district champions, the Braves faced a crushing defeat, losing 59-0 against Murphy.

“We have a tough schedule this year so we are going to have to give it our all every week,” says junior Jackson Stanfield “whether that is for a varsity game on Friday or a JV game on Monday”.

The Braves are hard at work to prove their dominance in the 3A division. Focusing on the fitness of the players is a key component to the team this year. They put a hundred percent into every practice and every game.

“My favorite moment of the season so far,” says senior captain Antone Parente, “was pulling senior Jamiek Satterwhite over the first down in the Kamiak game”.

With a rocky start to their season, the team stays positive and focuses on the good of each game and practice.

“We are hardworking, young, and have a lot of guys who are willing to step in and play” says junior Jackson Stanfield.

Starting with a team huddle before each game, the team values unity and dedication. They play for their teammates as they fill in positions and always perform with their best effort. On and off the field, the Braves are more than a team, they are family.

The team hopes to bring a win to the Braves at their first game under the lights on Mickey Nash Field this Friday at 7:00 PM.
