Netflix Fans: Dying Over The OA

Abby Hawkins, Reporter

On December 16 of last year a new series was released on Netflix called The OA. This show follows the story of a woman who had gone missing, and has a great deal of mystery and sci-fi elements.

I had been enjoying one of my last lazy days of Christmas Break when I stumbled across this series. The description of the show provided by Netflix is vague at best, but I realized after watching the whole first season in one day that this had been done purposefully, as the show is riddled with mystery and cliff hangers.

While there are some critics, many have said that this show is Netflix’s best release since Stranger Things. The show contemplates many issues and ideas such as life after death, self identity, and relationships. While watching, I often found myself perplexed and intrigued by the odd explanations and plot twists which the show was filled with. There were some elements which seemed to be a stretch, but with an open mind and some laughs, I was able to enjoy it quite a bit.

If you are looking for a show which will encourage you to think deeper about life and death, and can find the patience to wait for explanations and background over the course of one season, then The OA might be a show for you to consider. However, if you want a show to invest quite a bit of time into, this one isn’t it. There is only one season with a total of 8 episodes, and if you’re like me then you will likely finish in one day.

The OA is not yet confirmed for a second season, but you can catch the first on Netflix.
