The Bishop Blanchet Wrestling team began their season with a great win against West Seattle on Thursday, December 5th.

At the meet, individual wins came from Jackson Enquist, Brian Hooks, Simon Pitra, Emmanuel Sanchez, Chris Goodspeed, Maddie McCherry, and Erik Hodneland.

Most of the team is made up of returning members, but there was also an influx this year of promising freshmen wrestlers.

“All our new freshmen are ready to learn and get better at wrestling,” said senior Hodneland.

With one match down, and high hopes for the rest of the season, the team has a focused plan to improve.

“We can absolutely improve on our game from the bottom,” said Hodneland. “Many first year wrestlers are getting caught reaching back. Everyone had really good shots and takedowns. However, defending opposing shots could be worked on.”

For the rest of the season, the team will be working on making it to the state championships.

“I’d like to go to state this season to make my coach, Gregory Eagle, proud,” said senior Pitra.
