On Thursday, January 9, the Braves Wrestling team suffered two hard losses at home against O’Dea and Eastside Catholic, bringing their season record to 3 wins and 5 losses.

“It means we need to work harder,” said senior captain Simon Pitra. “It was not a great night.”

The team did get a few individual wins, including an exciting upset from Jack McSherry in the final seconds of his match, and pins from Brian Hooks and Chris Goodspeed, but overall they were disappointed in how their night went.

“The team can work on their takedowns and scrambling as well as conditioning and being able to go the full 6 minutes of a normal match,” said senior Brian Hooks. “It’s not where we want to be right now, but we are going to redouble efforts and try to make it to State. I think If we work hard enough over the next month, we can put up a good showing at Metros.”

The team did still see a lot of improvement from young wrestlers, some of which got their first pins.

“It wasn’t exactly what we were hoping for,” said senior Eric Hodneland, “but it was good to see a whole lot of dedicated wrestlers continuing to improve.”
