The ultimate frisbee season at Blanchet  started in November, and the team began playing games in December.

Many people around the school love the sport. Brett Hecko, Bishop Blanchet history teacher and ultimate frisbee coach, has positive views of the sports future.

“Ultimate Frisbee has exploded in the Pacific Northwest,” said Hecko. “So many kids play year round and nearly every Seattle high school offers boys ultimate in the fall, girls ultimate in the spring and co-ed ultimate in the winter.”

With this explosion of popularity comes a lot of equally passionate teams for Blanchet to face off against.

“We had a rough start to the season,” said Hecko. ” We were initially placed in the upper division, but have recently been moved to the second division.  This will allow us to play teams that are closer to our skill level.”

“Even though we had a rough start, I think we were just warming up, “said Houck. “We’re a good skilled team who can definitely win games. But the end of the day I  play it more because its fun.”

It was good to see that the players are just as passionate about the sport as they are about winning. All the players on the team seem to be just as positive about their upcoming games as Sam.

“Ultimate frisbee is a fun sport,” said junior Teddy Gallaudet.  “It helps me stay in shape during the winter  and gets me to go outside.”

Gallaudet likes the challenge of being placed in hte upper division.

“I think playing more skilled teams will be a good thing,” said Gallaudet. “I think we’re back into the season now and ready to go.”

The ultimate frisbee scene has quite a lot to offer and even though
