The Braves Wrestling team competed at the Metro Wrestling tournament on February 7th and 8th, finishing 9th overall and sending some of their wrestlers to the regional meet at Eastside Catholic on February 15.

The wrestlers moving on to regionals are Chris Goodspeed, who came in 4th, Brian Hooks, who came in 8th, Emmanuel Sanchez who came in 3rd, and Maddie McSherry who came in 3rd.

“The team as a whole did well,” said Simon Pitra, “given that most of our wrestlers were new and competed in tough brackets.”

Pitra, who himself didn’t qualify for regionals, still had an exciting weekend, winning 3 of 5 matches, winning the final match by hitting a Peterson.

The next big challenge for the team will be regionals on Saturday February 15.

“It’s not as many people as we would like to go, but I think we have a solid group and that we’ll do well,” said Brian Hooks. “Were going over previous mistakes and patching up any holes in our game in preparation.”

The team is also hoping to start a wrestling club, so they can keep wrestling in the off season.
