Welcome back to a new school year at Bishop Blanchet. At the end of summer, with no more late nights and sleeping in for way too long, we begin to reset our minds and fill the hallways with buzz by reuniting with friends, meeting our teachers, and taking our first notes in fresh notebooks. Everyone always feels a certain mix of emotions, like nerves and excitement at the same time. The first day may be about having all your supplies ready and having classes with your friends, but it is also about something more special, the Blanchet spirit.
Blanchet’s school spirit isn’t a concept, but a reality. The moment you walk onto campus, you can see the green and gold engulf you in spirit. It officially becomes game time when the first Friday football game starts, stands are full of students, staff, and parents in themed outfits, and everyone is cheering on the school’s football team. Chet the Bear brings hype to our crowd, the cheer squad leads us in cheers, and the band is blasting our fight song. You might not know football, but when you go to a Blanchet football game you definitely know energy.
Then Spirit Week starts to roll around the corner, leading to everyone’s favorite time of the year and first dance, homecoming. Creating fun themes like pajama day, spirit day, and twin day, you know we go all in. With themed assemblies bringing all students together, with Freshman to Seniors challenging each other. Just for the week, stress from homework and tests begin to disappear from our minds and the only thing that matters is who can show school spirit and pride the most. It becomes the most chaotic, hilarious, and unforgettable time every year.
Our spirit isn’t just about its crazy, unforgettable events, it’s also the little things that you might not realise. Teachers trying to cheer you on and help you try something new, encouraging and wishing friends good luck on a test, or hyping your friends up. Blanchet spirit is known because of our community, we lift each other up on the field, on stage, and even in classrooms.
So just to remind you, as school is just beginning, school isn’t just about doing homework, studying, and getting good grades, but it’s about reconnecting with people, embracing the school’s traditions, and being a part of something special. At Bishop Blanchet, school spirit doesn’t just turn on and off like a switch, but is the heart of who we are.
