Drake and Future drop mixtape: Is it really a time to be alive?

Canadian singer and rapper, Drake, teamed up with Atlanta’s very own Future and released an eleven song mixtape this past Sunday, September 20th, 2015.

After alleged rumors that the two rappers weren’t necessarily buddies, “What A Time To Be Alive” was written and recorded in just six days. In Rolling Stone interview, Drake said, “I went to Atlanta for six days a couple weeks ago with the hopes of doing some songs with Future.” The rappers were able to do much more than that.

The album consists of eleven songs, two of which are solos by each of the artists, with the remaining nine songs being duets. Drake’s solo track, “30 for 30 Freestyle” is an encore to his latest singles, “Charged Up” and “Back To Back”.

The rapper continues his feud with Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill by saying that he has bigger and better things to do, and that the competition is motivating him.

Drake and Future collaborated on “Live from the Gutter”, emphasizing the struggles of the men to come out of the hood, and make it big.

So, does the new mixtape really make it feel like a time to be alive? Senior Christian Peterson is a dedicated Drake fan and would say definitely so. “It was just typical Drake and Future. Good beats, good writing, and even better hype,” said Peterson.

Although it isn’t a school appropriate album when uncensored, Hot New Hip Hop Magazine predicted sales to be sky rocketing by the end of the week. “Hits Daily Double already have some projected sales for WATTBA, and it’s looking like it could sell 500,000 copies opening week, and head straight to #1” said the online magazine. It may be early, but it looks as though Drake and Future could be bringing in more money and fame.
