JVC Boys roll to 4-3

Thanks to strong coaching, solid playing, and impeccable team chemistry, the Freshman boys basketball team advanced to a record of 4 wins and 3 losses against the Lakeside Lions.

Although he didn’t get the start, Owen Albert came off the bench to put up six points in the second quarter.

Coach Sean Gaskill said, “Albert gave the team the burst that it needed to get out to an 8 point lead.”

Kudos to Albert for coming onto the court mentally strong and ready to keep focus and perform. The Braves were shocked when the Lions came out in a 2-3 zone. This slowed the game up and was something the boys weren’t used to. However, thanks to some good coaching adjustments, the Braves broke through the zone and went on a roll.

Gaskill said, “We moved the ball around and got good looks at the basket.”

Other key players that assisted in the big victory were, Michael Byrne and Jojo Wass. The two provided steady ball handling and play execution.

The game was neck and neck all the way till the end when the Braves found themselves down. With 1:30 left on the clock, the Braves called a timeout and executed a play close to perfection that helped them to get up on top. Maar Rambang stepped up to the free throw line and hit two clutch free throws with great confidence, making it a two possession game.

All of these plays were key to the final score, 35-30, and a win over the Lions. The team is growing every day and is hitting their stride at the perfect time.

The next home game for the squad is on Thursday versus the O’Dea Fighting Irish in the small gym.
