Fourteen years ago Mr. Sean Gaskill, History teacher and golf and basketball coach, was in the bleachers for Tradition Week as a Senior.Gaskill

Fast forward sixteen years he will be in those same bleachers, but sporting a different role; as a teacher. Gaskill has loved the competition of Tradition Week for a while. Whether it was at school, on the field, or with his brother, he was a competitor. He would bring this same mindset to tradition week each and every year. Gaskill would always count down the days to Tradition Week.

He said, “I enjoyed the rivalry and trash talking between classes. I loved the school pride and just loved to compete.”

To him, the week meant all about winning. He didn’t care about having fun as long as he was doing his job to help his class win. Whether it was cheering, trash talking, or partaking in the events, he was going 100 percent. He was the go-to pick for his class in the events. He claims to have been the “stud” of the class so everyone wanted him out there.

He said, “My favorite game was the Find The B competition.”

Gaskill loved the clues and excitement, but admitted loving getting excused from class.

He said, “I knew I wanted to be a teacher after Mr. Finn’s Biology class. I saw how much fun he had and the excitement he brought every day.” He went on to say, “He was also the teacher/coach combo, exactly what I wanted to be.”

He still never imagined himself coming back to Blanchet, however in his Senior yearbook he was voted most likely to return to BBHS. He wasn’t sure of his future, but his peers had an idea. He also thanks fellow Brave teacher, Mrs. Murphy, for going on maternity leave.

He said, “I subbed for her when she was gone, which is why I was able to return full time.”

Gaskill is looking forward to this year’s Tradition Week. He loves the heat of competition and enjoys seeing his students go through the same fun he experienced fourteen short years ago.

He said, “Since it will be syllabus week, the kids will be relaxed and will be able to have a good time.”

When faced with the tough question of what class will win it, he showed his humor it his response.

He said, “Todd McShay from ESPN and the Bellagio in Vegas have the seniors winning by 250 points. I would have to agree.”

Gaskill will be in those same bleachers, but he will be able to sit back and watch the show that he was part of just fourteen years ago.
