What A Week For Softball

This week the Braves Softball team had two games, and picked up their first two wins of the season by crushing their opponent each time. Now that is a week.

It all started Monday when the girls took on Chief Sealth. The team ten-runned Sealth in the fifth inning to notch their first win of the year. The team was led by seniors Meredith Beach and Annie Wright who each had hits. The win gave them loads of confidence that they needed to face a tough Highline team on Thursday.

On Thursday at Lower Woodland the team won yet another game by crushing their opponent. Again, the team was led by  Wright who received the player of the game award given by Highline.

The team is using this two game win streak to jump-start their season, and to have a strong second half.

A big reason to these two wins was senior leadership.

“The seniors have very big personalities,” junior Edie O’Connor said,  “which makes the team super fun! As the season has played out, they have been good at unifying the team.”

Another Senior leader is Caroline Roe. You won’t necessarily see Roe on the field, but she is a presence in the dugout. It is her first year playing the sport and is loving it.

Roe said, “Softball is so much fun. I never saw myself as a player, but when everyone wanted me to play I thought I would give it a shot. Turns out I have a passion for it!”

The team started off on a losing skid, but has seen huge improvements from then to now.

“We have had to adjust to the new team dynamics,” said junior Maddie O’Neill. “Now that it is the middle of the season, we have learned what our strengths and weakness are and how we can improve and achieve our goal to get to State.”
