Boys soccer fights to a 0-0 tie

When a young Braves soccer team played arch-rival Seattle Prep for the second time this season, most people thought the team would be pummeled by a strong Panther offense, as they were in the  March 23  meeting 5-1.

A determined Brave squad found itself  battling the Panthers to a scoreless tie.

“This game was an emotional moment,” said Edwin Cordova. “As a team, we had great communication and composure on the field.”

A tie might not seem like a big thing to many, but unlike many teams in the league, this Braves roster is not filled with seniors. The Prep team, known for its stingy defense, have a midfield filled with talent and experience, which has brought them to a record of 3-3-1 and a firm hold fourth place in the Metro Sound division.

The 1-5-1 Bishop Blanchet squad had a surprise up their sleeve playing great defense, shutting out the Panthers. It was the most complete defensive effort of the season; prior to this game the Brave defense had given up 21 goals, while its offense managed only seven.

The Braves, however, have been working hard throughout practice, creating the simple habits that  translate into the solid, inspired outings. Their efforts were greatly rewarded during the Prep game.

“The 0-0 tie was a “W” in the minds of the players and coaching staff,” said head coach Ryan Camden, “No better way to begin the second half of the season. That was our best game as a unit so far.”

The Braves are taking this great game experience and pushing forward to continue to make progress out on the field.

“We are blessed to have all three captains (Edwin Cordova, Jack Kane, Zach Walls) out leading our team on and off the field this season,” said Camden. “Each day, they are the face of the program and continue to show their commitment to BBHS men’s soccer.”

The Braves travel across the water to play  a tough Bainbridge team (2-3-4 and in fifth place) on Friday April 15th at 7 p.m.
