Freshman Lily Kings future is looking like a home run

If there’s one thing that Lily King and her dad have in common, it is their immense love for the sport of baseball.

King could always be found in her family’s back yard playing catch with her dad, while other kids spent their weekends hanging out with their friends. From her earliest memories, King cherished the times when her dad was her biggest supporter even when she could barely throw a softball more than five feet.

King remains surrounded by the overwhelming support from her family as she finishes up her first season as a BBHS varsity softball starter.

After her dad played college baseball, it seems as though freshman Lily King will be carrying on the family tradition, and has ignited a passion of her own for softball.

There was no doubt that King was born with distinct talent for from the moment she started playing at a kindergartner.  As she grew older, her love for the game grew immensely, and it was hard to find her without a glove in hand.

“I used to play catch with my dad every day,” said King. “I always wanted to be like him and I wanted to make him proud on the field.”

Eventually, King joined multiple select teams, and competed all over Washington. Every weekend for King’s parents and her two younger sisters was spent on the sidelines, cheering Lily on as she played in game after game.

Throughout her grade school education at Assumption Saint Bridget’s, King played multiple sports, but she never had the opportunity to play on a school team.

It wasn’t until this past spring of 2016 that Lily King was able to represent her school on the softball field as a freshman at Blanchet.  King was the only freshman on the team, but that didn’t stop her from quickly establishing friendships and feeling right at home with the returning players.

“At first I was nervous because I was the only freshman on the team,” said King, “but I realized fast how little my grade actually mattered. I always felt welcomed on the team and that’s an awesome feeling.”

Not only did she have fun on the team, King hit her debut season as a Brave out of the park.

King hit cleanup for the majority of the season, and pitched for multiple wins and through countless innings. Her talent was overwhelmingly displayed through her ability to hit any pitch thrown her way, and she finished the season with the highest batting average for the Braves. King also played third base for the Braves, and rarely let a ball pass by her.

As King wrapped up her first season as a Brave just a few weeks ago, she is has her mind set on following in her dad’s footsteps, and playing softball in college.

“My goal is to play in college no matter what,” said King. “I don’t know where, but I truly think that if I work hard and play even harder, I have what it takes.”
