The Bishop Blanchet boys’ cross country have come far this season as was shown at the Curtis Invitational and Metro race at Lincoln Park on Oct 1 & 6, respectively.

At the Curtis Invite at Chambers Bay Golf Course, the junior varsity team placed first overall. Five out of the seven runners achieved personal records at this meet. Adam Flood was one of the few junior varsity runners who didn’t PR at the Curtis Invite yet remains optimistic.

“My goal is hopefully to run under 18:00,” said Flood. “I don’t know if it’s gonna happen but that’s my goal so far, so if I can achieve that at metros or before that would be super awesome.”

The varsity squad was split into two separate races for the event. The top four runners raced at 10:30am and varsity runners ranked fifth through eighth raced at 11:35am. Senior Ben Hecko came in first place in the second varsity race. If placed in the first varsity race, Hecko would have come in 50 out of 165.

“It was a really different experience,” said Hecko. “[I am] used to seeing someone in front.”

At the metro race against Roosevelt, Ballard, and Ingraham, four more personal records were achieved for the varsity team and 27 for the rest of the team.

“Our team chemistry is much better than last year,” said senior Jack Kane. “There isn’t a big divide from ego.”

With positive attitudes such as Flood’s and Kane’s, the Braves are likely to continue improving in time for metros.
