JVC Girls’ Basketball lost 37 to 8 to Marysville Getchel this past Wednesday, November 30th.

The freshman team is just beginning the season, and they know there is a lot of work to be done. For three girls, it will be their first season ever playing basketball and the rest have all been playing on CYO teams up until this season.

Freshman Yordanos Mamo wasn’t able to reach the goals she set for herself in this game, but plans to comeback stronger for their next game against Seattle Prep.

“I think we played well with the fact that some players had no experience,” said Mamo. “A goal of mine was make the shots every time I had the opportunity but unfortunately I couldn’t because I kept getting pushed around by the aggressive team we were playing.”

JVC player Kate Yerkes was pleasantly surprised by the performance from the team on Wednesday.

“I didn’t expect us to do as well as we did because were not used to playing with each other,” said Yerkes. “I think we need to slow down and not rush our layups, we should also pass more than once before we shoot.”

Starting player Mia Jones had a great first game, scoring the first point for her team.

“I accomplished my goal of scoring for the team in this game,” said Jones. “Even though the score may not have been the outcome that we wanted, I feel like now we know what we need to work on overall so I’m sure we will play better as a team in our next game.”

Their next match is against Seattle Prep on December 3rd, 2016 at Seattle Prep High School.
