Metro League gave the Blanchet men’s varsity basketball team a rude welcome back from the winter break.

On January 7th, the Seattle Prep Panthers punctuated this sentiment by handing the Braves their third loss in a row with a 63-34 smackdown. However, not all has been bad for the program.

Senior captain Liam Eberhardt has found his scoring touch lately, average 14.3 points over the last three games.

“Each player needs to do their role,” said Eberhardt. “I’m just doing my role to the best of my ability.”

Santa must have brought Eberhardt a new jumpshot as, in the first game back from winter break, Eberhardt dropped a cool 10 points on 5/12 shooting in a 78-46 defeat at the hands of Metro League powerhouse Rainier Beach on January 3rd.

His best performance of the season came on January 6th, when the Braves traveled to West Seattle to battle the Seahawks of Chief Sealth. Although losing 79-59, Eberhardt played an all-metro level game dropping 18 points, punctuated by a breakaway, one-handed slam late in the fourth quarter.

“Liam was unstoppable against Sealth,” said junior power forward Will Fleming. “He always scores like that in practice, it was cool to see him put it together in game.”

In the aforementioned Seattle Prep game, Eberhardt put on a show. He finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Eberhardt looks to lead the Braves out of the losing streak when the nationally-ranked No.1 team Nathan Hale visits the Braves on January 13th at 8:30.
