The Blanchet Braves football team, led by senior quarterback Joey Riley, defeated Liberty High School 33-28 on Friday, September 22nd. Tommy Gardner’s game-winning touchdown broke 11 tackles and subsequently gained national attention through media outlets such as The Bleacher Report and Sports Center.

“ It’s cool to make it onto that big of a network…” said Joey when asked how it felt to get this coverage. ” I just put the ball in Tommy’s hands and he did his thing.”

The game was a back-and-forth battle and the Braves barely squeaked out a touchdown in the final minutes for a win. Junior Tommy Gardner broke through eleven different tackles to score his 61-yard touchdown, adding to his total yardage for the game of 117 yards. This move reached a national scale when it was noticed by news outlets such as Sports Center and The Bleacher Report.

“We just watched film at half and we knew they were tired from our defense, said Joey. “We knew our defense could keep us in the game.”

The Braves carried out the win using their corners and their strong defense to their advantage. The team was held up by their captain and quarterback, Joey Riley, as well as their entire defensive line.
