A Local Restaurant Provides a Taste of the South

Ellie Schober, Reporter

This past weekend my father and I had the pleasure of having lunch at Junebaby, a fairly new restaurant in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle.  Junebaby is the second of Chef Eduardo Jordan’s restaurants, the first being Salare, which is located right down the street from Junebaby. Chef Jordan traces his family’s lineage back to Georgia. As a result, Junebaby’s menu is undoubtedly Southern.

The dinner menu is full of favorites from the South, including corn bread, gumbo and red velvet cake.  The lunch menu is more casual and includes many good sandwiches. I tried the smoked chicken sandwich with a side of cast iron macaroni and cheese. The barbecue sauce on the sandwich was amazing. My father had a delicious smelling fried catfish sandwich with a buttermilk biscuit on the side. The biscuit melted in our mouths.  Our meals were divine and extremely reasonably priced for the quality of the food.

The atmosphere of Junebaby is modern, but comfortable.  The interior offers an open space, huge windows and minimalistic decor.  The staff was extremely friendly and our server was very welcoming and made us feel right at home.  It seemed that “service with a smile” was the restaurant’s motto.

For years, the Ravenna neighborhood has lacked quality restaurants.  Chef Jordan is changing this fact one delicious restaurant at a time. Even if you do not live in the Ravenna area, Junebaby is worth the drive, especially if you like Southern food.

Junebaby is open for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm and for dinner Wednesday through Saturday from 5 pm to 10 pm
