Men’s Varsity Basketball Kicks off Season with a Win

The Bishop Blanchet 2017-2018 Men’s Varsity Basketball team started off their season last Tuesday night by earning a solid win over Kentwood.

Last Tuesday, November 28th, the Bishop Blanchet varsity basketball team took the two hour trek down to Kentwood to face off against the Kentwood Conquerors. The Braves started off red hot, hitting shot after shot. All the while, on the defensive side of the ball, they came up with big plays only allowing Kentwood to score a few times in the first quarter. This trend did not last the entire game, with Kentwood eventually getting their offense going. Even with their revamped offense, it was no match for the Braves stellar defense.

“They had no chance,” Said senior Jack Shanahan, “We were just too much for them on the defensive and offensive side of the ball.”

When the final buzzer went off the Braves were on top, outscoring and outclassing the other team in every aspect. Their offense was superb all night, keeping a comfortable distance from Kentwood the entire time and performing well from beyond the arc. Blanchet’s defense was outstanding as well, playing aggressive, physical, defense against the Crusaders. A strong offensive performance was given by Senior Jack Shanahan who scored 12 points, had 7 assists and recorded rebounds in the double digits. Overall, it was a reassuring victory for the Braves, showing the potential for this season and showcasing the strong defensive prowess our Braves have.
