Varsity Girls Basketball defeated Roosevelt 43-26 on December 13.

The Braves were off to a slow start in their game against Roosevelt High, but they came out with a solid win nonetheless.

In the beginning of the first quarter, the team saw that their opponent was not going simply roll over and accept defeat. There needed to be a shift in the team’s mentality, and luckily, that shift came with a boost of motivation.

“We started out the first quarter not so great but really picked it up the second quarter and then did way better at the start of the second half,” said senior guard Jordan Ruiz.

Clearly, based on the final score, the rest of the game was a success.

Big games came from freshman Ava DiPietro, who came off the bench to give a great defensive effort, and senior Jillese Bush, who played intense defense inside the key.

“I thought we had a really great defensive effort,” said senior Ella DiPietro. “Even though Roosevelt had some talented players our team worked well together to create success.”

A strong defensive effort, as well as strong communication, appeared to set the Braves apart from their opponent.

“We worked well as a team and everyone contributed successful minutes,” said Katie Merrywell, a senior.

The Braves play next on Friday, December 15, against West Seattle. The game is at BBHS at 7pm.
