JVC Girls Basketball Has Set High Goals

As it is every winter, a new JVC basketball team comes in and replaces the old. The JVC team is comprised of freshmen girls who want to play basketball for Bishop Blanchet, and the JVC team serves as a way for the girls to prepare for the Junior Varsity and even Varsity teams.

Most of the girls on the team have been playing basketball for multiple years, on different teams, and they all have hopes of improving their skills and hopefully playing on the varsity team at some point.

Dominique Monroe is on the team and she has been playing basketball for eleven years. She loves basketball and says that the girls on the team are all very supportive of each other. At the beginning of the season, all of the girls set goals for the season and many had similar goals.

“I want to become more aggressive,” said Monroe, “so that I don’t turn the ball over.”

Monroe began playing basketball on the YMCA team when she was three years old and has been playing ever since. She does not play basketball for any other teams besides Blanchet, at the moment, but has in the past.

Maria Einmo had set a similar goal at the beginning of the season.

“My personal goal is to be aggressive,” said Einmo, “and get rebounds.”

Einmo has been playing basketball for three years, and like Monroe, began playing on an YMCA  team. Einmo is also only playing for the Blanchet team as of right now, but says that being on the team has made her want to find other teams to play for after the BBHS season ends.

Willow Berryessa plays for Ballard High School during the summers and says that it is a good way to keep her ready for the next season. Ar\t  the end of her interview, Berryessa stated her goal for the season is to be able to perform the same things during the games as in practice.

“I want to be more patient with bringing the ball down the court and focusing on making my shots in the game,” said Berryessa, “(and) not just at practice.”
