Kingsman Sequel Has Controversial Success

Kingsman: the Golden Circle may not have met its high expectation that was set for themselves. Although a fantastic film, it fell short to the first installment.

Kingsman: the Golden Circle is a sequel to the first movie released back in 2015. The Golden Circle was a great and fantastic movie that fell short in almost every category in comparison to the first movie. However,  they set the stage for an exciting third installment.

The first movie was a huge box office hit, that had a worldwide gross of just under half a billion dollars. It’s hard to match those big numbers, but the Golden Circle was a great film in its own right.

First off, it has a great and unique story just like the previous film. The mix of action and comedy kept the audience at the edge of their seat. The newest installment seems to bring a bit more mystery into it that makes you question the motives of individual characters. Senior, Chase Font expressed his thoughts on the film.

“I personally really liked it,” said senior Chase Font “ the plot twists really add to the story”.

The Golden Circle still leaves us in awe with the cool, futuristic spy equipment. From vicious robot guard dogs to advanced medical treatments, we find ourselves being reminded of the previous film, with a hint of something new. The major reveals within the story set up a sense of background information that was not previously explored.

The movie unfortunately still has its shortcomings. The movie had great big time actors such as Channing Tatum that didn’t see much action within the story. It does seem to set up a third installment that indicates Tatum will have a bigger part to play within the story. Senior, Luke Bader had some thoughts on the film as well.

“The film introduced a lot of new characters, but most were either killed off or never played a huge part,” said Bader “ we’ll see in the next film”.

Another critique to make is how quickly they killed off the previous characters of the first movie. Within the first fifteen minutes of the film, most of the main character’s friends, pets, and coworkers gets killed off in the story within mere seconds. The movie could have benefitted from a more detailed ending of the main characters loved ones. However, just like the many plot twists within the new movie, it wouldn’t be too surprising if they found a way to survive. Senior, Sam Peerce expressed his frustration.

“I just feel like they brushed over that too quickly” said Peerce.

It surely isn’t out of the realm of possibility that we might see the resurrection of these characters, because the very thing happened in this film with the resurrection of the main character’s friend.

Many people had different expectations of the film, like senior, Luke Bader who expressed his thoughts saying,

“Thought there was going to be more of a slower transition,” said Bader “I would have preferred a backstory”.

The Golden Circle seems to improve upon somethings and fall off on others. Both films are still great, however we can only hope the third installment resolves these issues.
