The Bishop Blanchet girls JVC basketball team is preparing for another successful season.

The squad is once again lead by head coach, Ms. Lisa Olsen and assistant coach, Ms. Froland. Olsen is the more seasoned coach, being with the program for a number of years, while Froland is relatively new to the team, returning for her second season this year.

Every day the team takes to the practice court in preparation for  their upcoming season. A daily practice begins with a simple warm up, which includes dynamic stretches, layups, and jump shots. The team then transitions into a either a technical drill, or a scrimmage.  As in season’s pasts, the coaches are placing an emphasis on creating an environment where the girls can have fun and grow as a team.

“We want to have a balance of fun and performance, and so far it looks like the fun part will not be a big issue,” said Olsen.

Olsen feels the girls have a great opportunity to be successful this season. Playing in the Metro 3A division, the team will face some tough opponents, such as Seattle Prep, Roosevelt and Holy Names.

“Holy Names always has a pretty good team,” said Olsen when asked who their biggest competition will be.

The girls next game is away against Bellevue on Wednesday December 6th. The team has a quick turn around and plays Lakeside at home on Thursday December 7th.
