Last night, the JV girls basketball team battled out a close game against Holy Names Academy and won with a score of 27-23.

Defensively, the Braves possessed with their constant rebounds. Scoring eleven points, sophomore Ellie Walker led the way, and freshman Mya Mosley followed with a strong defense and five points.

According to sophomore point guard Wintana Negash, the game was a strong team effort with great plays made by all of the team. They knew it was going to be a difficult game, but that only encouraged them to play harder.

“I think that the points were combined with all of the team,” said Negash. “Each girl made a great play to take it in to the basket. I was excited rather than nervous to play HNA, they’re one of the better teams and I was more enlivened to play harder.”

The highly anticipated game had Mosley diving on the floor for many steals, and setting up a strong defense. However, it was offensively that the JV girls team struggled.

Coach Chase Walker was also anticipating an intense game last night, and believes the Braves struggled to shoot the ball all game.

“Last night was a defensive battle that resulted in an ugly win for us,” said Walker. “Going to play at HNA, you know that there is going to a lot of passion that surfaces in a Metro League Catholic school rivalry matchup, so we knew it was going to be a dogfight.”

The girls take on Cleveland next Wednesday.
