When I first decided to go see I Tonya I was not too excited to be honest. Truthfully I had never heard the name Tonya Harding or who she was. Even though at first I had no idea what the movie was about, it pulled me in right away. I had no idea that Tonya Harding was the first woman to ever land a triple Axel, and I had no idea that her life story was so insane.

The movie has a unique format where the characters are basically being interviewed when they are older about the stories that happened when Tonya was skating. I really liked this because it allowed the characters to narrate the story through flashbacks of when they actually lived it. This made it super easy to follow along and see everyone’s different perspective of what actually happened.

Harding had a gift for skating ever since she was young and was willing to pursue her dreams no matter what. This was one of my favorite themes of the movie. Harding pushed towards her dreams even when she was the victim of an abusive family. She didn’t care about what anyone thought of her. She did not let anyone get in her way of achieving her dreams and she will always be remembered for that same fearless determination.

The film follows Tonya along her skating journey as she grows up over the years. It starts off when she was young and first starting to take lessons and then moves into the older years where she is competing in the Olympics. The movie focused on the two biggest events in Tonya’s life. The time when she became the first woman to land the triple axel, and the time when she was arrested for being involved in the sabotage of her fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan’s skating career. The movie perfectly depicted the struggles that Harding went through all while she was just trying to be the best.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie. It was a great interpretation of Tonya Harding’s life and all of her insane life stories. I would especially recommend it to anyone who likes drama movies.
