The FBI Storms Michael Cohen’s Office, Igniting a Passionate Response from the President

The FBI raided both the office and hotel room of President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen, obtaining a variety of documents.

On Monday, April 9th, the FBI began their surprise search into the President’s lawyer. According to Eli Watkins’s article from CNN, most of the information gathered pertained to the alleged affair and ongoing litigation between adult film actress Stephanie Clifford and Donald Trump (CNN).

The search was conducted by prosecutors after a referral from Robert Mueller, the leading prosecutor in the Special Council’s Russia Investigation, according to Matt Apuzzo’s article from the New York Times. The referral didn’t involve the Russia investigation directly, but was more likely a result of things he found that could be pertinent to the FBI (NYT).

Naturally such an event sparked political debate throughout the country with some painting this as an indicator of the President’s alleged wrongdoing, and others continuing to dismiss all investigation as unfair and unfounded bias. According to Aaron Blake’s article from The Washington Post The President has some of the strongest words on the matter.

“It’s a disgraceful situation,” said the President at the White House prior to a meeting involving the recent tragedy in Syria. “An attack on our country.”

The President went on to declare any investigation into him involving Russia a witch hunt and called those investigating him, whom he characterized as almost all democrats, “the most bias group of people”, according to the New York Times.

A reporter further pressed Trump and asked the question many people were  curious to hear answered: why won’t he just fire Robert Mueller. Trump was quick to respond (CNN).

“We’ll see what may happen,” said Trump. “Many people have said you should fire him.”

This was perhaps the most incendiary part of the entire ordeal. Democrats and Republicans alike have been advising the President over the past year to not fire Robert Mueller. For many people believe it would qualify as obstruction of justice and lead to Trump’s potential impeachment. Junior Cade Prinzivalli weighed in on these comments in an interview.

“I hope Donald Trump won’t go as far as to fire Mueller.” said Prinzivalli. “I think the investigation should continue. If there is anything to find they will find it and if not then they won’t.”

Many people who are against Donald Trump are conflicted on whether him firing mueller would be good or bad. If he doesn’t fire Mueller, the investigation will continue uninterrupted until they finally discover the truth about Trump. But if he does fire him, that gives the democrats standing for impeachment if they can win back the House during midterms. Senior John Broom commented on the matter in the interview.

“Even though I’m totally in favor of the investigation, Trump firing Mueller wouldn’t be the worst,” said Broom. “Gives us a reason to get rid of Trump.”

Whether you believe the recent raid is actually significant or more of a political debacle, the President’s reaction to future events could have major implications in the political sphere.
