Media Literacy Week

Alex Levy

November 5-9th saw Bishop Blanchet celebrating Media Literacy Week.

The week was focused on teaching members of the community how to recognize and respond to influencing images and advertising.

Media Literacy Week is an event hosted yearly by libraries across the nation.

For Media Literacy week, the Bishop Blanchet library hosted multiple video sessions to raise awareness about advertising and created a “logo-free” day. The goal was to get Bishop Blanchet to become proficient in knowing when they are being exposed to an image or ad created with the intent to influence their opinion and perception, and how to respond.

Each of the past Media Literacy weeks has focused on a specific topic, such as intellectual property rules.
