Knowledge Bowl heads to State

Cole Thomas, reporter

On Saturday, your Knowledge Bowl club represented the school well at the regional competition, and will be heading to state on March 17th!  Please congratulate Brendan Nenninger, Nick Velasquez, Joel Lemus, and Jerrod Ranta–and wish them success at State!

Moderator Jesse McFeron took Bishop Blanchet’s finest minds south to compete in the Washington State Knowledge Bowl earlier this month.

In the regional competition at Mt. Tahoma High School, the Braves showed their worthiness to be there. Answering question after question, they turned in a great performance, and by the end of the day they had team members Brendan Nenninger, Nick Velasquez, Joel Lemus, and Jerrod Ranta punch thier tickets to state.

At the state tournament at Arlington High School, the Braves hit a bit of a rough patch, and junior Jerrod Ranta took note of this.

“Most of our struggles came from not buzzing in fast enough and getting beaten out at a chance to answer by quicker teams” said Ranta.

However, he did keep a positive mindset.

“We didn’t qualify for the semifinal round at state, but we still did decently well,” said Ranta, “At the end of the competition, we had a lot of fun.”

The Knowledge Bowl team will have their 2018 campaign close here, but they return several club members next school year and will look to return to state competition. The future, as well as their minds, are bright on the Knowledge Bowl team.
