Baduizm, Erykah Badu

Looking for some new bangers to add to your playlist this summer? Look no further at Erykah Badu’s album “Baduizm”. Singer-songwriter Erykah Badu recognizes the genres of R&B, Hip Hop, and soul. With her soulful voice and introspective lyrics, Badu creates a landscape that resonates with listeners on a deep level. The tracks “On & On” and “Next Lifetime” are some of the greatest hits on the album, and are a perfect listen for any time of the day!

“American Kids”, Kenny Chesney

“American Kids” by Kenny Chesney brings the summer Vibe alive with its nostalgic lyrics and upbeat rhythm. The song captures the essence of carefree summer days. With lines like “We were Jesus save me, blue jean baby, born in the USA” it’s a perfect addition to your Summer mixtape. This song encapsulates The Spirit of Adventure,  making it ideal for road trips, beach days, or just relaxing with friends. Add it to your mixtape and let the good times roll.

“Back on 74”, Jungle

“Back on 74” by Jungle is a song that would be a great addition to a summer mixtape! It has a really catchy beat that you can easily dance to. The song also has an uplifting vibe, which means it will make you feel happy and positive. It’s a fun and energetic track that would be perfect for your summer playlist.

-Maisie Holt

“Praise J’s in the Moonlight”, YG Marley

Driving down to the beach to hang out with some friends or going on an errand run, with the windows down breeze coming in and sun shining down it’s just a relaxing summer vibe. But matched with an uptempo yet chill mixture the song “Ppraise Jjs in the Mmoonlight” by YG Marley just elevates the vibe so much better.

-Ru Jemaneh

“Lyin’ Eyes”, The Eagles

You know when the sun is beaming and windows are down in your car, but you just don’t know what song to play? Well, look no further, because this band has you covered. The prominent 70’s band, Eagles, have a number of summer classics, but one is above all others: it’s called, ‘Lyin’ Eyes’. The simple, groovy sound of the song proves to be a crowd pleaser for all – even your parents and grandparents. This timeless single will have you singing with your friends, while keeping spirits high, and who doesn’t want that? If you don’t know what to play after that, don’t worry, you can just hit repeat.

“To the Mountains”, Lizzy McAlpine

If you’re looking to slow down this summer and enjoy some time in nature then Lizzy McAlpines song ‘To The Mountains’ is the perfect soundtrack. The combination of Lizzy’s soft layered vocals and acoustic guitar creates a lovely melody that fits with the image of beautiful scenery one could see driving through the mountains. The song echoes an idea of leaving the overwhelming world behind to find peace again in nature.   Bing Videos

“It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere”, Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett

This song is the perfect match for chilling by the lake with your pals. It’s all about having a blast and not worrying about anything. You know, just enjoying each other’s company, laughing at jokes, and watching the sunset. It’s like the song’s saying, “Hey, it’s okay to kick back and have fun!” It adds to the good vibes of hanging out with friends on a summer evening, making it even more awesome.

“Love Song”, The Cure

“Lovesong” by The Cure is a timeless tune that encapsulates the spirit of summer. The song was released in 1989 with the band’s 8th studio album, “Disintegration”. It was a massive hit, shown by its appearance at number 2 on the Billboard Top 100.

The Cure is a band from West Sussex, England whose musical style is often categorized as new wave or alternative rock. Though they often blur the lines of popular genres, their music is comparable to bands like Oasis, The Verve, and Fleetwood Mac. The Cure has an incredible discography, which I recommend everyone to listen to this summer.

“Doin’ Time”, Sublime

With the summer season around the corner, nearly everybody is in a light-hearted spirit for the warmer weather. When thinking about summer you typically think of sunshine and good vibes, and a surefire way of achieving this is through a solid playlist. When basking in the warm sun it’s only fitting to play some summertime classics. I’d recommend unwinding to either some reggae or Sublime. “Doin’ Time” by Sublime is a great song to blast in your car this summer.

Adela Rimkus

“Too Sweet”, Hozier

Hozier’s third album Unreal Unearth, received an add-on containing four new songs that never made it into the original release in Unreal Unearth: Unheard, which was released on March 22nd, seven months after the original album was released. Arguably the most popular song in this bonus track was “Too Sweet”, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 27th. The tune has definitely become an earworm in both die hard Hozier fans and casual radio listeners. I’m seeing his concert in September, and I can’t wait to hear it live.
