Boys tennis smashed by Garfield, but spirit remains strong

The Bishop Blanchet tennis team kicked off their season with a bit of a rough patch, dropping eleven out of the thirteen matches to the Garfield Bulldogs.

The loss, however, did not dampen the team’s Brave spirit.

“I really liked the effort the team gave as a whole,” said Junior leader Tommy Kane. “Even though we played a really good team, we played the best we could and stayed strong. We never gave up and fought hard for every point, even the younger guys were giving maximum effort, and that great to see.”

Senior captain Ollie Anderson, junior Will Merriman, junior Tommy Kane, and freshman David Ochsner lead this year’s team.

With practices daily, the team works hard at their craft. Daily inter-squad matches, backhand form, serves, and volleys are all things the team holds high on their to-do list each day.

“Practice makes perfect it’s really that simple,” said Merriman. “We try to improve most on what we didn’t do well during our match. I strongly believe if we practice hard, we can be a great competitor in the future.”

The team’s next match is Tuesday March 22 down at their home courts in Lower Woodland.  The match is a big one against arch-rivals Seattle Prep.
