ligths1On September 12th the Bishop Blanchet community, celebrated the dedication of  the brand new field lights.lights-1

“The field lights ceremony,” said Bishop Blanchet president Antonio DeSapio, “was (meant) to celebrate four hard years (of work) from a lot of different people to help bring the field lights to the Blanchet campus. So we wanted to have a stand alone event to acknowledge the moment.”

The cheer team, BBHS students, and BBHS alumni gathered on Mickey Naish Field to flip the light switch on the newest addition to our home field, the new seventy field lights.

The first 250 guests to arrive at the dedication ceremony received a mini BBHS LED flashlight so that they could turn on their own light as the field lights switched on. The fight song played as the score board counted down from 10 seconds and the field lights were turned on for the very first time. The ceremony was Emceed by Joe Bennett, and blessed by Fr. Gordon Douglas.

Blanchet is the first high school in Seattle to have LED field lights. The LED model better stimulates daylight and is considered to be more energy efficient.

“I felt proud of all the hard work, the planning that went into it,”said DeSapio. “I felt really energized for the students who get to be out there, either cheering, in the band or on the field.”

The field lights were a great new addition to the Blanchet community, and there was no better way to bring them in then with a bang such as the ceremony. Special thanks to the donors, and people who help fundraise the money. Also huge thank you to Blanchet athletic directors Rick O’Leary and George Monica, and facilities director Vladimir Firsov.
