When thinking of cheesesteak, Philadelphia is one of the first thing that comes to mind. Many people think the only way to get a warm, cheesy, and grilled to perfection cheesesteak is going all the way to the East Coast. Well think again, because Seattle is showing a hint of Philly heritage in downtown Seattle that is worth checking out.

Buried in the heart of Rainier Square, Al Calozzi is serving up some mouth watering cheesesteak that hints at the perfection of a homegrown Philly sandwich.

“I’ve had a Philly cheesesteak before,” said Jordan Jansen, “and I’ll tell ya, Calozzi’s comes pretty  close to those sandwiches they’ve got over there on the East Coast.”

This little emporium wasn’t much to begin with. Before owning his own store, Al Calozzi was serving cheesesteaks out of his food truck in Belltown. Now that he has two  steady locations, Seattleites can’t seem to get enough of Al’s sandwiches.

“I was never really a big fan of the cheesesteak sandwich,” said Scott Doquilo, “but after my experience at Calozzi’s I can truly say that I love cheesesteaks now!”

Calozzi’s offers five different sandwiches, and all can come “wit” or “witout” grilled onions.  Diners also have their choice of cheeses: cheese wiz, white American, provolone, and mozzarella.

All the sandwiches are served on a delicious hero roll.  If you were hoping the bread may soak up some of the grease from these grilled masterpieces, fuhgeddaboudit.  Grab more than a hand full of napkins.

The classic steak sandwich costs $9.00.  “The Donne” adds mushrooms to the mix for a true Philly taste.  The Roni  mixes pepperoni  in with the roast beef for a nice Italian pop; it sells for $12.00. The Pepper steak  and Pizza steak both sell for $10.00.

Calozzi’s whips up a yummy plate of fries for 4$ or “wit” cheese for 5$.

So if you’re craving a warm, juicy, steak filled, and very cheesy cheesesteak, then Calozzi’s is the place for you…… and your hungry friends.
