Amazon announced on September 7, 2017 that it will be searching for a second corporate home outside Seattle, starting a competitive bidding war throughout the United States and parts of Canada.

By the end of the day, cities including Chicago, Dallas and San Diego, had announced their interest.

“This is the trophy deal of the decade as far as I can tell,” said Greg LeRoy, the executive director of Good Jobs First.

Amazon estimates its investments in Seattle from 2010 through 2016 resulted in an additional $38 billion to the city’s economy, according to the latest Amazon press release.

“We will prioritize bids from metropolitan areas with more than one million people; regions that provide a “stable and business-friendly environment”; urban or suburban locations with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent; and communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options,” according to Amazon’s press release.

Amazon’s second headquarters will be a huge financial gain to the area that Amazon chooses. Let the race begin!
